FOUR HOURS IS ALL IT TAKES
Community-Based Mentoring matches meet twice a month for 2-3 hours. Being a mentor is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling things you can do. Be a part of a child's life and help shape their future through empowering him or her to achieve their goals and have a lot of fun in the process. You and your Mentee can share in activities together such as hiking, playing sports, eating pizza together, hiking or attending a Community Youth Mentoring monthly activity together.
WHO IS A MENTOR?
A mentor is a person age 18 and above or friend who guides a child by building trust and modeling positive behaviors. An effective mentor understand that his or her role is to be dependable, engaged, authentic, and tuned into the needs of the mentee.
Youth Mentoring is the process of matching mentors with young people who need or want a caring, responsible adult in their lives..... The goal of youth mentoring programs is to improve the well-being of the child by providing a role model that can support the child academically, socially and/ or personally.
The Benefits of Mentoring. Mentoring is a proven strategy for positive youth development. Youth are more likely to succeed in life when they have the additional support of a caring, consistent adult mentor. Having a mentor can enhance a young person's learning skills and help build resiliency and self-control.
TO BE MATCHED WITH A CHILD, A VOLUNTEER MUST:
Be at least 18 years old
Meet with the child at least one to two times each month
Possess a valid driver's license, reliable transportation and current car insurance
Be willing to complete a volunteer application, background screening, driving record screening and references
Be willing and able to make at least an 12-month commitment to the youth in the program
